Kids Voices: [in unison] Read a good book.

Today, we took apart junk to see what's inside.

First, we looked at books to recognize different parts.

Today I took apart a controller that makes the camera change colors.

[sighs] Oh my goodness!

Whenever you plugged it in, this would start spinning and collect the electricity in here, and make these start spinning, and pass the electricity through here, and then, that would make this spin, and when these spin because they're connected to those, that would make the mixer spin.

Do you know what that big thing is?

We found springs, gears, pulleys, and other simple machines.

The coolest thing that we thought was in here was this. It makes these move.

We made sure a grown-up was here to help us.

And we also wore safety glasses.

And we have the biggest circuit board.

Inside this VCR, I think there might be some buttons and some wires.

The different things I found is this little cord that connects to another piece and it transfers the message to every piece.

Make sure you get permission before doing this activity.

Taking apart junk can be lots of fun!
